Gr 5–6—For tech-savvy tweens, Sparkhouse, a publisher of Christian curriculum resources, introduces this mixed-media animated series on how to connect with God. A group of preteens run a community theater, where they reenact well-known Bible stories in plays they put on, with engaging and quirky characterizations and dialogue, as well as song and dance. In an example of the tone, when Moses is called a superhero, the prophet claims he is only an ordinary guy through whom God has done amazing things, and he goes on to say that God has a plan for each of us. Another story explains that God's blessings can neither be stolen nor diminished when shared. There are eight episodes on each DVD, about six minutes long—volume 1 includes "Creation" and "The Fall," and the second contains "The 12 Sons of Israel," "Joseph in Egypt," and "Exodus."
VERDICT These DVDs are a worthwhile purchase for family use and formal religious instruction.
