Cómo se come un mango

PreS-Gr 2–Carmencita is not that excited to help her grandmother in cutting and picking up mangoes from the trees in their backyard. In the process of grabbing mangoes, Carmencita expresses that she doesn’t even like mangoes. Her grandmother tells her that she doesn’t like them because she doesn’t know how to eat them; the girl then learns that it takes more than a bite to understand mangoes. Mango trees, in addition to offering a delicious fruit, provide leaves, roots, branches, and growth parallel to life changes and experiences. Food and crops connect families and lands through Earth’s natural gifts. Digital, colorful illustrations capture the granddaughter and grandmother’s love and bond as well as Caribbean countryside landscapes that move beyond the usual beaches and tourist perspectives.
