Buddy is a Puppy

PreS-Gr 1–Meet Buddy the dog and his boy Raj in this series of adorkable early reader books. Simple, short sentences introduce readers to the daily hijinks of Buddy and to his interactions with Raj and his friends. Sentences are repetitive, following the pattern set by the title of the book; for instance, in Buddy Is A Puppy, the entire book follows the formula of “Buddy is a puppy. He...” is/does something simple. Clear drawings emphasize each action or expression of Buddy, Raj, and friends; usually, the drawings highlight the sentence on the page and provide excellent context clues. Each book also contains a “Things to do next!” section at the end that provides ideas for writing, drawing, and discussion activities for students that emphasize the repetitive action of Buddy from that book. Overall, Ponnay’s early readers series is short, clear, and filled with one hilarious puppy.
