Gr 6-8–In this novel, part of Miller's “Click” series, Olive is being forced to spend spring break with her dad rather than with her friends and enjoying all the exciting adventures they had planned. Olive is not happy, but her brother Goober is psyched to be getting more quality time with their dad. Olive is still reeling from the fact that her father moved all the way to New Zealand and is struggling to forgive him. On top of that, she really would much rather be watching movie marathons, camping, skateboarding, and enjoying the world of social media on her new phone instead of spending it with Goober and her dad. As in Miller’s other books, the emotions Olive experiences are earnest, understandable, and relatable. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s worth reading the whole series and following Olive’s character development. The illustrations are playful and lively; characters are full of color and definition.
VERDICT Miller delivers another heartfelt and thoughtful tale of finding forgiveness, embracing change, and being in the moment.
