Gr 7 Up—This PBS program consists of four episodes depicting a variety of life and natural phenomena in the Pacific Ocean. Viewers witness sea turtles making nests of eggs on the beach and puffer fish constructing elaborate sand circles for mating. When environmental impact threatens the existence of the horseshoe crab (which has survived five mass extinctions), children in China participate in conservation efforts to save the population. Life finds a way in the wake of typhoons, tidal waves, and even the nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll. Each approximately five-minute segment features appropriate music, clear HD visuals, and strong narration from Daniel Dae Kim.
VERDICT Featuring high-quality production values and general interest subjects, this is an enticing offering . However, the short segment lengths and limited educational detail make it less suitable for classroom viewing and more appropriate for home and public library use.
