Luckily, Fox’s animal friends have an idea to find Pup—bake a delicious pie and wait for Pup to join them at the table for a slice! Emergent readers will delight in seeking out the letter P hidden in each illustration, which supports shape and letter recognition skills as well as the familiar hide-and-seek plot. Predictable phonics patterns are repeated with variations: “Pup is lost! Are you here? Are you there?” The text uses simple vowel combinations, such as “ou,” and the illustrations offer strong support, showing Fox and the other animals looking for Pup as they ask, “Are you here?”
VERDICT A solid choice for early reader collections.
