PreS-Gr 1-From the first page to the last, this is a lovely informative look at the many ways mammals nurse their young. The text rhymes in both languages; however, the translations are not always in sync, though the overall message is similar. Each rhyme is no longer than a sentence and includes information about the featured mother and baby pair. Not only will children learn about breastfeeding, they will also learn the correct terminology for each animal offspring along with other vocabulary words. Facts about human babies are included, and there is a small section that discusses pets, which could spark a discussion about the difference between wild and domesticated animals. Warm watercolor illustrations accompany the gentle narrative. The soft colors used in the artwork add to the soothing tone of the book and provide even more opportunities for development. End pages are peppered with bullet-point facts.
VERDICT Educational opportunities abound in this book for little learners. A great gift for a new family.-Katie Darrin, Boulder Valley School District, Boulder, CO
