Gr 5—8—Art That Moves is a good choice for children interested in animated movies. Bliss looks at techniques from the early beginnings to modern times and mentions recent film releases such as Cars (2006) and Where the Wild Things Are (2010). Guillain delves into the history of punk and follows its influence on modern art, fashion, and politics. Art for All focuses on descriptions of art applications in memorials; public installations; and in politics, religion, and nature. Examples represent a sampling of artwork from around the world, such as the Berlin Holocaust Memorial, Cambodia's Angkor Wat temple, and a Diego Rivera mural in Mexico. Shakespeare discusses modern adaptations of the Bard's classic works; teachers may find this a useful resource to help students see how Shakespeare remains a part of today's culture. All four volumes are quick, interesting, up-to-date reads with plenty of supportive, captioned, full-color photographs. They also provide related project suggestions, including designing a September 11 memorial, making a stop-action movie with a digital camera, designing punk apparel, and creating Shakespearian word art.
