K-Gr 2—The animals are grocery shopping at their supermarket, but not for ice cream, cookies, and chips. Instead, the polar bears are buying seafood, the birds and ants are picking up crumbs, the cats are stocking up on milk, and the bears are eating berries. Slightly reminiscent of Roger Duvoisin's artwork, the cartoon illustrations picture all the animals and their food choices, making it fun to examine each spread closely, but the overall colors are somewhat subdued. However the book's subject is entertaining, and it could be used as a springboard to discussing healthy human eating habits, although this topic is never referred to directly.
VERDICT A fun title, but not essential fare.
