PreS-Gr 1—Set against a sepia background and ringed by a decorative border, each entry's letter is displayed both in lowercase and uppercase in illuminated text reminiscent of a medieval manuscript. Complementing each letter are examples of animals whose names start with the letter. Some letters have only one animal, such as "X is for X-ray fish," while most entries have many more creatures, such as the 10 (though unidentified) species of butterfly or the six different animals across two pages for the letter "P." The watercolor illustrations are beautiful and realistic, and children will enjoy looking at them, but there is very limited information about the entries. An attractive browsing choice for libraries looking for artistic alphabet books.—
