K-Gr 2—Fran Hodgkins's nonfiction book (Treasure Bay, 2011) is now available in an enhanced, interactive ebook format. Young readers can learn about all sorts of eggs in this presentation. Bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, insect, dinosaur, and even platypus eggs are mentioned. Illustrations by Wendy Smith, as well as crisp photographs, accompany the clear, well-written text. Viewers can choose to read the book for themselves or have it read to them in its entirety or in segments by a female narrator. On nearly every page there are interactive opportunities to watch very short, related video clips, or get close-ups with new facts or vocabulary. These are presented by a male narrator. Three games—"Concentration," "Matching," and a quiz—provide opportunities to reinforce what students have learned. While two of the video segments are somewhat gratuitous, the rest are right on target. Teachers will enjoy using this as a full-class presentation, or setting it up as a center. Students will enjoy the multiple opportunities for learning that it offers.—
