Three YA authors discuss timely topics they’re passionate about, including gun violence and female empowerment.
 
Deb Caletti, Author, A HEART IN A BODY IN THE WORLD
Deb Caletti is an award-winning author and National Book Award finalist. Her many books for young adults include The Nature of JadeStayThe Last ForeverEssential Maps for the Lost, and Honey, Baby Sweetheart, winner of the Washington State Book award, the PNBA Best Book Award, and a finalist for the California Young Reader Medal and the PEN USA Award. Her books for adults include He’s GoneThe Secrets She Keeps, and her most recent release, What’s Become of Her. Deb grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, and now lives with her family in Seattle. 

Ellen Hopkins, Author, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE
Ellen Hopkins is a poet, freelance writer, and the award-winning author of twenty nonfiction titles, three novels for adults, and thirteen NY Times Bestselling novels-in-verse. She has published hundreds of articles on subjects ranging from aviation to child abuse to winegrowing. Ellen is a regular speaker at schools, book festivals and writers conferences across the US, and now throughout the world. 

Nadya Okamoto, Author, PERIOD POWER
Nadya Okamoto, who grew up in Portland, OR, is a 20-year-old Harvard student. She is the Founder and Executive Director of PERIOD, an organization she founded at the age of 16. In 2017, Nadya ran for office in Cambridge, MA. While she did not win, her campaign team made historic waves in mobilizing young people on the ground and at polls. Nadya recently signed with publisher Simon and Schuster to write Period Power: A Manifesto for the Menstrual Movement on sale October 16th!
