The SLJ team is hard at work curating some of our top summer reading picks for a variety of age groups by type, genre, and subject area. Those lists will roll out starting after Memorial Day. In the meantime, here are some of our favorite lists from other organizations and libraries.

Bank Street's Center for Children's Literature announced the winners of the annual Irma Black Award and Cook Prize, which are judged by children. 

Two new children's books come out this week: A middle grade memoir from the daughter of Mexican immigrants about her experiences learning and adapting Don Quixote into an after-school musical, and a gentle picture book that encourages care for trees and all the creatures who make them their home. Both are available as ebooks. 

Fantasy, realistic fiction, and sci-fi: Three new middle grade novels are coming out this week, all available as ebooks.

The In the Margins Book Awards honor the best books published over the preceding 18 months that appeal to the reading needs and wants of youth living a marginalized existence, with a specific focus on narratives and informational texts that address the disproportionality of injustices experienced by BIPOC youth. This year, the committee selected three top titles in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, and advocacy and social justice. They also released their full Top 10 list.

Mi papi tiene una moto/My Papi Has a Motorcycle is the first-ever award winner of the Center for Children's Literature at Bank Street College of Education Best Spanish Language Picture Book.
